“Your work is going to fill a large part of your life & the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work and the only way to do great work is to love what you do.” – Steve Jobs
My college years were tough—struggles, mistakes, and failures always interfered. I took a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology; it was the path I’ve chosen even though I’m clueless about what’s ahead of it.
My plans were only simple—to pass, graduate, and get a decent job.
At first, I never thought of something I can seriously take as my career. I was scared of what my future holds, not until I got introduced to Graphic Design.
When I started learning Photoshop, I was having a hard time. It was very confusing and hard, but still, I tried my best. I practiced, sharpened my skills, and whenever I discover new things about it, I apply it with creativity. Since then, I’ve been assigned to create user interfaces and web designs for our school projects. That’s when I started to love what I’m doing. The confidence I gained gave me the urge to pursue my profession as a Web Designer.
After I graduated from college, I sent a lot of applications to different companies, hoping to be called and be qualified for the position but most companies are looking for someone with experience. It was a struggle for me because I was a fresh graduate at that time. Applying for a job nowadays is very challenging, especially for fresh graduates.
Then, I found Carl Ocab Digital Marketing on Jobstreet, looking for a Web and Graphic Designer. While I’m reading their qualifications, I was amazed because this company is giving everyone a chance to show their potentials. The third bullet indicates “No non-sense qualification,” meaning you can get the job as long as you can DO the job. I didn’t hesitate to send my application. Days after, I got an invitation for a job interview and been hired the same day.
Finally, I got a job that I genuinely want. I was hesitant if I’m going to accept it because I wasn’t confident about my skills yet and maybe I couldn’t meet their standards. Luckily, I’ve been editing for almost 2 months at CODM! Not only that, I’m surrounded as well with happy, warm, and genuine people who will not give you a hard time, who will trust your works, and who will help you grow. They’re family to me.
I love being creative and love the thought of creativity. Right from a very young age, creativity has always been great and exciting for me, although I’m not fully aware before of how it will benefit me in the future.
Great interest told me to work hard for it and use what I have that lead me today—working yet doing what I love, starting where I stand, utilizing the skills God has given, accepting criticism and still learning each day.
I finally found a perfect time to start. If you haven’t found yours yet, don’t give up. Keep on searching and trust the timing. Remember, all things are possible for those who wait and believe.
