I’ve always wanted to be a graphic designer. My first weapon of choice? Microsoft Paint of course!
Most of my computer time is used for online photo editing websites. Before graduating from high school, my friend installed a photo editing software called “Photoshop” in my laptop. I was so excited to open and use it for the first time. At first look I freaked out, I was overwhelmed and clueless. It was quite more complicated than the online editing websites I’m familiar with. Right after my first attempt… I never opened it again.
Years passed and I already forgot that I have Photoshop installed in my laptop. My church asked volunteer graphic designers for the ministry. I wanted to join so bad, but the only problem is that, I know nothing about Photoshop! My church then started conducting Design Seminars and I fell in love with Photoshop in a snap!
During college, I took up Communication and Media Studies. I made sure it’s something related to graphic design. I joined organizations and was quite active in my extra-curricular student life. My editing skill was utilized almost every day. One day my professor messaged me to edit something for the school. I worked on it right away. After giving her the file, she gave me an envelope. I got PAID. I got PAID FOR EDITING. I ACTUALLY MADE MONEY OUT OF MY PASSION?
I started telling people that I can do editing. I received editing projects from friends and friends of friends. The best part is they pay me! Imagine earning money for doing something you love and enjoy! Isn’t that sweet? Now I’m a graphic designer by profession and I still learn each day! It really is true that if you do something you love, you’ll never work a day in your life!
