What is affiliate marketing all about?
An affiliate (also called associate or partner) promotes other people’s products on the Internet. There is no cost to get started since affiliate programs are free to join.
What some affiliates make an absolute killing while others fail?
There are a lot of reasons for this, but one of the most important is that they have the wrong information and make things way too complicated.
But this is going to change for you.
Today, I’ll start by explaining the basics, and after that, I’ll explain every single step more in details. If you want to make your first commission, I am willing to help.

Let’s start with the affiliate marketing basics:
Here is how it works:
1. You pick a profitable market
There are thousands of profitable markets on the Internet. This step is pretty straightforward, but beginners make it complicated (I know because I struggled before I find a niche).
Here are some highly lucrative niches that you can copy: golf clubs, learn Spanish language, Save your marriage, registry fix, Internet marketing, yeast infection.
These are enough to get you started right away. Don’t over analyze and just pick one.
2. You find an affiliate product
Let’s say that you chose to make money in the yeast infection niche, all you need to do is to register to clickbank.com and choose a yeast infection product.
Tip: Make sure that the gravity is more than 30.
3. Create your money making affiliate website
Your are almost ready to start your affiliate campaign now. Before you start, you need to create a website to promote your affiliate links.
A few years ago, it was a bit challenging for beginners because many of them didn’t have a clue about html. And even if they had a site, adding links and new pages was extremely difficult. But today, nothing is easier than creating a website. Seriously.
Here are two free platforms that will help you to create your own website (or if you prefer, you can create a blog) in just minutes.

Blogger.com
I suggest to my student any of these two platforms to start. Many people like Squidoo, but there are two many outgoing links, and you will lose a lof of commissions with Squidoo. Squidoo is good to get backlinks though.
4. Traffic, Traffic, Traffic
To make money on the Internet, you need two things:
- An offer (product or service)
- Driving traffic to this offer
The beauty of affiliate marketing is that you have thousands of products that you can promote today. And even better, you have the ability to know what products are selling like hotcakes.
There are no secrets.
Traffic generation method are well known. Some require your time, while others will ask for your cash.
Find a few that work well for me below:
- Article marketing
- Blogging (on my blog)
- Guest blogging on authority blogs
- Blog comments
- Press Releases
- Backlinks
- Forum marketing
- Social Bookmarking
- Videos
- PPC
With this, you have everything you need to drive at least 4000 potential buyers to your list every single month.

I think if toy want to make good money you need to target popular produts and target low competition keywords with high searches and rank number 1 on google.
If you can do this you will make some great sales and be earning lots of money. Once you do this just rinse and repeat to scale things up and earn even more money.
When I got first started, I became pretty good at seo, and I made the mistake to think that getting on Google first page was everything.
It doesn’t really work that way. You need to convert visitors… AND have a backend system in place.
Your plan is good (first spot, scale and make money), but this is THE problem. I preach to my students that they are not here to make money, but to build a real business.

It’s always the same things, we know how to cook, but we don’t have the ingreadient. It’s a great post Carl, but I think most of advanced bloggers like me would like to know more details like how to get traffic concretly. I don’t talk for myself as I already know how to get traffic etc, but it would surely make your readers happy to learn a little more tips than they can read on other blogs… As a matter of fact I often read the same kind of post on differents blog, it’s like a same t-shirt with different brand name on it… but don’t get me wrong, I really like your work, that’s why I bought UBT from you. BTW, I’d like to have a talk with you soon about UBT, I have some problem with it that haven’t been solved, plus I’d like you to add an additional feature if possible… thanks.
Traffic is not a secret. What most people don’t get is that they need to outsource to get MORE traffic. I learned from several millionaires, and they all say that you should buy traffic AND use ALL the traffic sources available.

great points you outlined here. However, I don’t think it is just the wrong info that some people have why they don’t make a lot online. A lot of persons have different types of hurdles that they face. Some have technical hurdles and other hurdles.
However, i think if a person is determined to make money online they can do it by following a proven system. What you have outlined is great but for a complete beginer they may need s more detailed step by step process to follow.
But you have hit the nail on it’s head. Overall great post.

This is the first of a series of articles. Even with the best plan, many newbies will not follow through. That’s why I am going to write more articles that focus on a single aspect of affiliate marketing. I’ve mentored dozens of newbies, and those who got the best results did everything one step at a time.
When I try to give too much, information overload comes. As for determination, you are right on. but this (determination) is a subject in itself. As for me, I am a martial artist (and former body guard), so I really know this subject (mindset, determination)… but for many newbies, even with the best blueprint, it’s STILL difficult to get started.

Franck, I agree with you. I myself have been a victim of information overload many a times. It’s certainly best, especially for newbies, to not fall into the info overload trap. I believe many are stuck in there and as a result fail in their IM journey. Seriously, there’s just too many information about this out there at the moment.

As for the title having nothing to see with the article, I don’t really agree (but my opinion is biased).
At the end of the article, I stated what an affiliate needs to make several thousand dollars per month. There is nothing else.

It’s all here. The only thing is that most affiliates only drive a couple of hundreds visitors to their affiliate links while they need to drive thousands.
There is no secrets. Just offer, conversions and traffic (lot of traffic).

I just started with my new website and got about 70 new vizitors a day (but average returned vizitors-6, so I think they like it) Nobody bougtht nothing yet though. I think to buy traffic is a good idea and I will go for it as soon as I earn something. But what about right now?

Finding a product, putting up a site are just preliminary activities. And now a days they are very easy to achieve. The hard part is driving traffic to your site. How and where can you find those hungry buyers just waiting for your site to pop out from their screen. I mean, it’s really hard to drive traffic that has a good to high conversion ratio. It would be useless if there are hundreds of people visiting your site but no one buys from your site. Finding quality traffic is really difficult.
