Advertising, the internet will have no meaning without it. Today I’m gonna talk about Advertisers, what you need to know when advertising on a website.
When I plan to advertise on a website, my dad always asks me TONS of things, A LOT of times! Sometimes I get frustrated, but if you just think about it. It’s actually right.
He always double check triple checks stuff, even the smallest things. That’s why I came up with this post, Just want to share what I learned from my Dad, “The Greatest” ;)
1. Traffic Stats – Be sure to check this and be sure it’s valid. Try to ask them with a minimum of 3 references. Like awstats, webalizer, some analytics software they use or even their bandwidth usage!
2. Traffic Quality – I would say that this is the most important of all. Let’s just say, I saw website x’s traffic stats and I approved that it’s valid, then I go on and skip this important part and ending up scammed because all of the traffic were just redirect/bot.
Not only that, you should also check if the traffic is targeted and if it fits the product/website that you’re advertising.
3. Advertising Options – Should I get a sidebar ad? Or maybe that one on the top? After analyzing those 2 above, let’s proceed and take a look at the website’s advertising options. Ask these questions to yourself:
- Will my ad get enough exposure?
- Will website x’s visitors naturally click on my ad and not just accidental?
- Is the money I paid worth for that spot?
4. Contract Requirements – This is where the hidden fees goes, most websites require contracts, just to be sure they get a hold of their client. But take note to ask them if you’ll gonna pay the same amount for the next month before signing the contract.
5. The Publisher – I think this relates to #4, When advertising on a website, you should also know the owner, or the so called publisher. Keep track of his/her records online. Try doing a quick search like “Website Name Scam??
6. Payment Options – Lastly, check the payment option. Please remember that some countries can’t be paid thru paypal (Like us :( ) for some security reasons. You can try wire/bank transfer, western union, ikobo (what me and josh used) for alternatives.
